Real Life Vs. Video Games

Today Yahoo.com published a story on a couple who got engaged through a video game that the man made from scratch. This poses an interesting question... if they were to get married in the video game would it be respected in "real life"? In todays day in age real life and virtual life are become one and the same. Where do we draw the line when it comes to relationships?

New Facebook!

Today Facebook revealed their new newsfeed look, which is intended to revamp the social networking site. I guess they're worried about some small percentage of people who have either taken a break from Facebook or quit the site altogether. Whenever Facebook changes something i always get a whole ton of people who posts statuses for the next week complaining about how they don't like it, or how it's confusing. I personally like the changes that they make and like a new look every now and then. I wonder if they've taken into consideration that a certain amount of their demographic actually get unencouraged when something foreign shows up?

Todays Reading

I thought today's reading was thought provoking because of the idea that photography is dead. In a way, i agree with the statement because of how the text talks about the truth behind a photograph. To me, a photograph is supposed to reflect reality, and the art of photography is to capture that reality in a beautiful and creative way. When we take the image and add elements in that aren't actual truth we are being misleading to the audience. I definitely thought the section of the reading on this topic was very relevant and made me think!

Preston Bailey

Today i was learning about Preston Bailey during my internship, and it really made me realize how our DTC classes are integrating with my career choice. Wedding design is alot more mixed media that i originally thought, which is a great thing for me or else my degree would be useless! Something i saw about Preston Bailey was how he creates sculptures out of flowers, and thats his signature element. This made me think about the artist presentations from last semester that showed alot of artists using everyday elements and making them special.

Projector Art

This Article caught my attention today because of the re-imagination that the artist used. I am always intruiged when people take something someone else has created and then changes the focus to bring a new light to the material. It makes me think about how if we had all the same idea, we would be able to all present it uniquely because of all out different perspectives!

Series Inspiration

When Phil was talking in class today about creating series, and how having multiple versions of images can create more impact, my mind went to this article/slideshow that i saw this morning. The images are taken of animals that are hidden within their environments. This sparked an idea of how cool it would be to create a series that have meanings/images hidden within the image.

Here is an example. This is a butterfly, not a snake!

Why didn't i find this sooner!

So tonight while scrolling through my Facebook News Feed i saw this photo:

What a neat image! It definitely ties in with the project we are doing in class, and i wish i would have found this sooner because it would have been super fun to do an image like this. What do you guys think?
