Self-Portrait for Multimedia Authoring

The image above is my "Self-Portrait". When i started this project i was very worried because i don't have Mac skills or Photoshop skills! So it was a learn as you go project. I originally started with a completely different idea, but when i was trying to photograph some of the elements of that image i kept stressing out about how i could justify the idea as being 'Me'. I then realized that if i have to worry about how to explain it as being 'me'... then it truly wasn't. So i decided i needed to start from scratch and really think about who i am, and how to represent it.
I liked the idea that we didn't have to do a photograph of ourselves to represent who we are. I feel like a self-portrait is a way to show your soul, so my appearance doesn't necessarily show my soul. Thats why i decided to make my portrait more about outside elements than images of myself. I'm sort-of an old soul, i love vintage imagery, vintage jewelry, vintage style, romantic elements and delicate elements. I love vibrant colors mixed with depth, and i feel like theres nothing better than an image that has emotion and feeling to it, something that keeps you interested. Thats why i decided to create a self-portrait that had a vintage feel.
The background of my image is a piece of scrapbook paper. It's perfect to create the basis of the portrait because it includes my two loves, vintage elements and butterflys ( Butterflys have a very personal and sentimental meaning in my life). I then brought in scans of items that are important to me. There are four scans that i included in the image. The brown cameo on the top left-hand side of the image is one that has been passed down from generation to generation and was recently given to me. The blue cameo on the lower right hand side of the image is one that i found at Pacwood during their annual swap meet. I also included one of my favorite necklaces on the upper right-hand side of the image, which incorporates both the butterflies and vintage feel. To include myself in the image, i photoshopped an image of myself onto a cameo that i own, and placed it in the upper right hand side of the image.
