I read an article today that spoke to the ways in which our Smartphones are hurting our health. It caught my attention because everyone i know is one their phones constantly. I personally rarely make calls on my cellphone so i always thought that the harmful effects of the phone wouldn't be all that much for me because i rarely hold it up to my head. However, heres what i learnt:
1) Our smartphones hurt our ability to focus. People are constantly checking their phones, for the time, e-mails, texts, missed calls, facebook notifications, tweets, news update, instagram uploads, pinterest... should i go on? With all this updating, uploading, and checking, we aren't focused on anything but out phones.
2) Germs. This one is a no brainer. Of course our phones are covered with germs. We are constantly touching the screen, and then touching our faces, hair, clothes.. everything. And then if someone is making a phonecall... they're rubbing all those germs all over their faces! Argh!
3) Eye Strain. The images and text are so tiny on a smartphone that we are straining our eyes t view it. This leads to headaches and blurred vision. The article suggests increasing the size of the font on our phone to two times the smallest font that you can easily see.
4) Stress. The whole idea behind a Smartphone is the ease of communication and access to social media. This means that you can be reached in a multitude of ways, and all of the time. That sounds stressful to me.
The article also speaks to a few ways we can help ease these health effects, so feel free to view it here .
That must be why I get so many headaches! ;) Someone should invent something where we can have something similar to a smartphone and not be harmed by it. Now that would be a great solution! :)
